Fifth Water Hot Springs

November 14-15, 2025

November 14-15, 2025 the scouts had a backpacking trip to Fifth Water Hot Springs near Spanish Fork. On the way down, we stopped at Costco and picked up five large pizzas for dinner. We arrived at the trailhead at around 7:00 PM. It was very dark. The boys shouldered their packs and started the 2 mile trek to the springs. It was wonderful watching the scouts interact with each other. If someone was struggling with the weight of their pack, another scout would automatically jump in to help. We made camp about 50 yards from the hots springs. After changing, the troop hiked to the springs and soaked in the various pools until around 11:15 PM. They had a snack (cracker barrel) at the hot springs and headed to bed nice and warm.

Saturday morning the troop awoke, changed into cold bathing suits, and walked to the hot springs to soak and play. The springs are made up of roughly 27 soaking pools of various temperatures. While soaking the boys met an individual who maintains the pools. He taught the boys how to make the dams that make up each pool. He had the boys look at all of the pools. He told them that every spring the heavy runoff washes the pools away. Every year he hikes back into Fifth Water Hot Springs and rebuilds every single pool.
