Spiral Jetty Campout

April 18-19, 2025

The Scouts went on a campout to Spiral Jetty on the north side of the Great Salt Lake. The area is a surreal desert landscape. It is a beautiful rocky area with small meadows that they setup their tents in. The boys did their cooking in the parking lot. Friday evening and Saturday morning the boys explored the rocky area around camp as well as the dry lakebed of the Great Salt Lake. The boys had a campfire and roasted s’mores. They also sang camp songs. Their smiles say it all. The dry bed of the Great Salt Lake yielded some amazing pictures and things. The boys found salt crystals sticking up out of the sand. Oddly we also found tar oozing out of the dry lake bed.

Saturday they visited Golden Spike National Monument where they had a tour of the engine house and received a special gift from the park of golden spikes delivered in beautiful blue cloth bags. They then visited “Stinking Springs” on the way home. Stinking Hot Springs is a free, sulphur, spring. There are three pools with temperatures of 107, 105, and 103 degrees.
