Locomotive Springs
May 2-3, 2025
For our May campout, our troop went to an area called Locomotive Springs. We camped at Teal Spring. The elevation was 4,226.72 feet above sea level. The purpose of the campout was for the boys to earn their fishing merit badge. Most of the boys were able to catch, clean, cook, and eat the fish they caught. The spring was stocked with delicious Rainbow Trout. The area was a very flat desert. Mosquitos were very plentiful. The only other wildlife we saw were a couple of mice.
For dinner our chefs made Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. Cracker Barrel (snack before bed) was a delicious peach cobbler. For breakfast many of the boys cooked the fish they had caught the night before. The chefs also made breakfast tortillas. They cooked sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, onions and peppers. They were served in a tortilla shell. Saturday morning the boys went fishing again and caught several rainbow trout. For lunch the chefs made fish and beef street tacos.
The troop thanks our wonderful merit badge counselor, Bob, for teaching the boys to fish, untangling lines, providing bait, and extra fishing poles. We couldn’t have had such a successful campout without you.
